Your message piqued my interest, as I attempt to keep track of rare Morgan
types and a Fiat engined +4 definitely falls into that category. Can you
give me the chassis number of your car? Do you know anything about the car's
previous history?
The point about early 1980s (and before) Morgans was that the protection
against the elements, both for the chassis and the woodwork, were below par.
That's why in some cases Morgans of that age needed a complete rebuild
after -say- 3 or 4 years in extreme cases.
If your Morgan hasn't had a rebuild yet, it is likely to need one before too
long. Do the doors still close well, for instance, or do they need lifting?
That's an easy tell tale for the state of the wood work. It also happened
that the rear wings still looked in fine shape on the outside, but were
entirely rotten away inside. One could go on.
So, check out your Morgan, or have it checked by a specialist. Major work
could lie ahead. If you are lucky and the workers had a good day, your
Morgan still could be in good shape. I hope for you that this is the case.
