speedometer cable

Hi All,
My speedometer is not working. The cable is connected to the back of the 
speedometer gauge, but the long cable is laying on the floorboard. I have 
searched my manuals, and can not find where this cable should be connected to 
make the gauge work.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
