We identify Morgans by type and model of type, not necessarily by year.  I 
think you nailed it.  With the reintroduction of the 4/4 series 2, H. F. S., 
due to the vagaries of the British auto and political landscape, intended it 
as an inexpensive tourer.  With the availability of Aquaplane heads, etc., 
enough performance through after-market bits were in existence that the 
series 2 could be more competitive.
