The exhaust gas temperature sensors in my 4/4 read 1400F cruising down the 
road at 65 mph with the engine warmed up.  Climb a long hill with the gas 
pedal down and it jumps to 1580 in a few seconds.  If the engine had to pull 
like that all the time you'd really have a hot engine compartment; you can 
feel the difference inside the car.
