Jeff,
Try 18 PSI cold and drive the car the way you normally would. Take a
reading when hot, and if you have 21 PSI, you are there. If you only have
20 PSI, then run it at !7 PSI cold and see if it warms up to 20 PSI when
you use the car in the normal way. This is an old racer's trick, the idea
being to warm the tires three PSI from cold to hot to know that you are
getting optimum performance from your rubber. This trick works well for
any car or motorcycle regardless of use.
The only exception might be some irregular tyre wear pattern with the
suspension settings already determined to be correct. You might then
need to run a pressure which compensates but is not optimum for the
rubber, which would be unfortunate. A manufacturer would find new
size and tyre combinations if this were to happen, but your budget
may not allow such experimentation. 'Hope you won't need to resort
to it.
