As the thread seems to have turned to electronics, I have a question
please.

I have installed a Pertronics electronic sensor in my 69 Plus 8 distributor
to replace the points. This is a simple Hall sensor with a magnetic pickup
that slips over the shaft. Some months ago the thing left me stranded out
in the country on fine Sunday morn. I noted that the coil, a new Accel
unit was quite hot, upon replacing it, I was on my way.

When I got home I installed a new MSD hi po coil under the dash, as in a
Plus 8 the coil sits over the exhaust manifold, behind the radiator. I
also disconnected the MSD Blaster box that I was also using, thinking this
might be part of the problem. I notice that at steady road speed, 65 to 75
mph, the coil is simply warm, but at slow speeds stop and go 25 to 45 mph,
the coil gets really hot. You cannot keep your hand on it for any great
length of time. This is not an issue of airflow as there is none under a
Morgan dash with the top and curtains in place. The thing is hooked up
properly, it isn't that difficult.

What gives here? Any thoughts?
