Aha! Well, if the current sales figures for the newly-styled Miata
continue as they have started out - then I don't think there is all that
much to worry about. Second iterations are often a death knell in the
automotive business, but it doesn't look as though that is developing
with this particular car. I would grant the jury may still be out.
On the other hand, why should this specific automobile be held to a
standard of longevity in the hearts and minds of various enthusiasts
before it is considered to be of value? If the benchmark is 40 years,
then that is a stiff one. Many fine marques have fallen prior to
meeting this standard.
I also think quality begets care, thereby leading to long-term
enthusiasm. The Morgan defies logic on this one because they have done
it more on character than on quality. One of the needed mysteries in
life!
