David,
I also am just installing a wiring harness in a '60 +4 and will use halogen
lights with a relay. I found that the dimmer switch is quite a bit beefier
than the panel switch so I installed a relay right before the dimmer switch.
The blue lead that originally went to the switch now goes to the control pin
on the relay and a new 10 gauge wire feeds the relay. You just need to make
a short jumper from the relay +12 output pin to the dimmer switch and a
short ground for the relay control circuit and you're done. This reduces
the current through the panel switch (the relay only needs 150 ma), requires
only one relay and puts it inside the cockpit (near the dimmer switch,
protected and accessible for replacement).

Since I'm using standard sealed beam lights (legal) the current requirements
are handled by the dimmer switch and existing headlight wiring, and are well
within the relay capacity (30 amp). I got the relay (30 Amp Auto Relay -
sealed unit, mounting tab) from the friendly local Radio Shack, but J.C.
Whitney probably has relays that will work as well.

You can make your own decision as to a fuse or CB in the +12 feed line to
the relay (I use a fuse). The original wiring went directly to the
headlights through the switch (no fuse or CB).

While I was at it, I put one just after the fog light switch also. Similar
installation.

Dear All,

I am currently installing the wiring harness on my '60 +4. I plan to use
hylogen lights, and have been told it would be wise to install inline fuses.
Should I use inline fuses to all lights and what would be the best amp
fuses to install on each line? I hate to guess at something as important as
this.

P.S. I am using the GM alternator with the built in regulator, if this
makes any difference.

Thanks for any info you may have.

Morgan dittos,
David
