Good Morning:
Thought I would toss in my 2 cents.
I have a 51 +4 which came with 6 16" wheels. I have found that although
the look is right for the car with the 16" cross plies, the practicality
of driving the car says (to me anyway) "get a set of 15" wheels and put
on a set of modern 165x15 radials."
One of the reasons I have done that is that the 16" wheels had the
reputation of cracking around the lug mounting holes. I found some of
that cracking on a couple of mine when I sand balsted them for painting.
I had the cracks welded on the back side. I use those wheels for spares
on the flat rad as thats all that will fit on the back of the car is the
5.25 x16 cross plies. I have Avons and also have Avon radials on the 15"
wheels. I also have the option now of mounting additional 5.25 x16 Avons
on the other wheels and using them for show purposes, should my car
ever get to that point of restoration.
Be sure to inspect those 16" wheels closely and good luck with whatever
you choose to do.
