Dear all:
In my never-ending rise on the knowledge curve (a Sisyphean task, if ever
there was one), I am trying to figure out compatibilities for an engine -
tranny swap in me 4/4. I now have a 1500 cc 120E with what I guess is a
cortina mkI gear box. I'm interested in moving up to the 1600 x-flow and
have located one with a cortina mkII gear box going along with it in a
package deal. My questions are:
1. Would the 1600 x-flow mate with my cortina mkI box? (backplate,
splines, etc.)
2. Are my chassis tranny mounts compatible with the cortina mkII box?
(i.e. can I just swap the engine AND tranny at once, without complications?)
3. Would I still use the push/pull linkage on the mkII box? (I've seen it
and it clearly does not have a remote control extension, and that push-pull
is "simply charming!"
4. This engine currently has the double barrel down draugh solex. Will
there be a clearance problem under the hood of the mog? (The engine came
out of a 1970 TVR). Or sould I go for twin webers and set the world on fire!?
Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. Sorry if I've been
dragging this discussion on; I'm a bit slow on the uptake these days I
guess...
Cheers,
Will Zehring
p.s. with lows in the 50s now, we're REALLY getting into Mog weather!
Where's my flat hat??
