in order to advance two morgan projects, some critical items are needed
and it is hoped fellow enthusiasts can help source them.
for a 1991 plus 8 we need hubs and wheels hopefully from someone who has
made the conversion to wire wheels and also an engine for rebuilding. we
would prefer a 3.9 but would accept a 3.5. high milage is ok as it will be
rebuilt. we are not interested in the olds or buick versions.
for the same plus 8 we need ideas for a rear end. the studebaker
advocated by fred sisson is probably not the answer because his source is a
liquidation deal and the appropriate ratios between 3.3 and 3.5 have been
exhausted when what they call twin traction is needed also. the 9 inch ford
is too massive. the local race shop suggests a 8 inch ford from a pinto
wagon into which 9 inch internals can be adopted. i look at the chev s10 or
the jeep small wagon rear and they look right plus have the support of the 4
wheel crowd with after market bits. someone had bound to have experimented
in this area and have some ideas. we want something mainstream, appropriate
for the car and heavily supported by after market manufacturers.
the second project is a 100E powered series 1 4/4. we are told there
was an aftermarket bell housing allowing a ford 4 speed box to bolt to the
engine. we understand this item is no longer in production and it would save
a great deal of effort if someone out there can help locate one. also we
would like to find one of the overhead inlet valve conversions like made by
willimet.
any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
