An easy way to isolate the water pump is to take off the fan belt and try it.
It may be the generator too. Water pumps can make different sounds depending
on what is going wrong. Usually it is some kind of squeel. If you can detect
play in the water pump by pushing the fan in and out, its shot. But it could
be shot even if you can't.
