I am a new member of the newsgroup. I have not yet got my Morgan, but I
drive a Westfield Seven, which has a Ford crossflow bored out to 1700cc,
with twin Dell'Orto carbs, a fancy cam, Powermax pistons, high pressure
oil pump, Jenvey Dynamics aluminium baffled sump, lightened flywheel,
electronic ignition, etc. Even with all this, it's still a very reliable
engine.
Most Westfield use this engine, and so there a lot of owners over here
who know the engine very well. There are also a number of specialist in
tuning the engine, although I suppose they are becoming rarer.
One company who are still involved in tuning the crossflow are Hi-Tech
Engineering of Thompson Street, Padiham, Preston, Lancashire (Telephone
44+1282 778731). I have no connection with the company, and I cannot
comment on the quality of their product. I am aware of them only as
regular advertisers in Westfield World (the club magazine), and I
believe they have been in the business for over twenty five years.
They supply:-
Remanufactured crossflow engines
Rebuilt using new components to the original Ford specification

Performance Built Engines:
Stage 1,2 or 3.

Big-bore engine kits:
Modified cylinder head, overbored block with new cam bearings and core
plugs, reground and restroked crankshaft, new Hepolite pistons, fitted
and balanced con-rods, lightened and balanced flywheel, Hi-Tech
camshaft, new cam followers, new oil pump, new rocker shaft, new timing
chain or belt and a set of gaskets. I quote "All ready to assemble." I
am told the current price for the basic kit, which increases the
capacity to 1660cc is £600 including VAT. If exported, not VAT is
charged, so the price comes down to £510.
They will build the engine if required for £300 (£255 without the
dreaded VAT).
Please note that these prices are on an exchange basis; otherwise there
is an additional £150, and you foreigners will obviously have to add the
cost of shipping!
