Option one:  tighten them until the stud snaps and back off a 1/2 turn :-)

Option two:  read some of the other posts or check for you self at the local 
library auto repair books in the 
reference section.  They usually have some english car repair manuals.  

By the way, it usually pays to replace all of the manifold studs and nuts with 
new brass ones.  They are 
readily available at most auto parts stores like NAPA.  Just take in your old 
ones...  I always use an 
anti-seize compound (loctite makes one) on these...
