We have used bicycle speedometers in the past and they worked really well.
They just use a magnet on the wheel with a proxy sensor. And for $15.00 from
Wal-Mart they are cheap and replaceable.

Subject: Speedometer - Baja
I've seen some teams at past competitions with custom made speedometers. I was
wondering how these teams went about doing this? (Are premade circuit boards
or such available that worked out well? What type of sensors were tried or
used?)
Thanks
