Hello,
Has anyone done testing to determine the traction available from an atv tire
on dirt and gravel? I image I could find coefficients of friction for these
surfaces, but since the aggressive tread pattern of an atv tire tends to dig
into the surface, I think the basic--normal force/tire patch area/coefficient
of friction--calculations might be inaccurate. It would also be hard to
estimate the "effective" tire patch area. If our time/resources allowed I
would like to do testing myself, but since they dont I would appreciate
information from tests other teams have performed.
No need to get as detailed as performance curves. Simply information such as
at ___ lbs normal force, we tested ___ lbs of traction.
Granted, different tires (tread patterns & sizes) would produce different
results, but I am just looking for a good number to plug into my dynamic
model.
Thanks,
MT
