Otherwise, probably worn-out carbon brushes.
BTDT, several times, several cars.
Cheap parts, price only the single-digit range.
If it's a Lucas 16ACR, the Lucas part number is 54219368. (LAX 31-32).
IIRC, you'll really need a 1/4" socket to take out the black
alternator cover and to remove the brush holder.
