Dan,

I have never had an issue with using regular sockets with an air 
ratchet, it doesn't put out near the power that an impact would.  I will 
say that you should stay with good quality sockets.  Of course if you 
are trying to convince the wife that it is a safety hazard and a 
necessary expense then go for it.
