If all your pipes are connected up correctly, fuel could spill out of
the vent if the float in the float chamber is not closing the valve
properly.
Alternatively, if you've connected into the vent, I would expect plenty
of fuel to come out of what should be the inlet.
If everything is working correctly, you shouldn't be getting any fuel
out of the vents at all.
Sorry, my '73 has HS4s, not HIFs, so I can't check which nozzle should
be which.
