Paul:

The two point sets for the 45D are pretty different.

The type used on the Federal 45D4 on 1975 vehicles and the original
Lucas 41427 is the DSB108. This point set looks pretty much like the
old DSB101 point set, but has an extension that holds a small block of
felt.

The later self wiping point set you are describing (DSB191) is unusual
in the US, but was seen on a lot of replacement units brought in by Mini
and Land Rover suppliers.

I've got one of each on my desk and will take some pictures to do an
information article.

It's really confusing now as the 41427 distributor (143-110) we were
importing from Lucas used the DSB108 point set. Now the repro
distributor (143-115) is using the DSB191 so I have to get the newer
point set into our catalog.

As I recall the wiping points is a feature of the 45D, as all the ones I
have seen have the pin on the vacuum advance plate that moves the white
plastic slotted piece on the bottom of the points, which moves one of
the
contacts up and down relative to the other as the vacuum changes. This
tends to reduce pitting and spiking. If I'm correct this would make all
45D
points the same, and none of them interchangeable with 25D points - in
either direction. North America had electronic ignition and hence no
points
from the 1975 model on, and the Parts Catalogue only shows one points
set
for 25Ds and one for 45Ds.
