Bench bleeding is a way to get all the air out of the master before
installing it. If it is done properly, on many cars the master can be
replaced without the need to bleed the whole system.
To bench bleed a master, you need fittings the go into the master wherever a
brake line attaches. (This can be one, two, three or four, depending on the
car. On MG's it is two or three.) To each fitting connect a piece of
tubing. Fill the master, put the loose ends of the tubing into the
reservoir, and with a screwdriver push the piston in as far as possible and
release. Wait about 15-30 seconds and do it again. Repeat until no bubbles
show up. No install the master, disconnecting one fitting at a time and
replace it with the brake line.
