Where does this go? MG tranny

When I bought my MG the tranny was disassembled in a box.  I'm putting it
back together and have an interlocking arm assembly (Mos #461-230) and don't
know where it goes.  It is shown in my repair manual, but there is no
mention of it in the assembly instructions.  The arm part is a little rusty
which would indicate to me that it is outside the box.  The parts diagram is
no help.
Any help is appreciated.
