Did you prime the oil pump?  I always pack the oil pump with Vaseline when I 
install a new one.

There is a gasket between the pickup and the pump,  IIRC, the gasket has a 
hole in it that has to be installed the right way.

Anyway, if you take out the plugs and crank it, it should come up in 30-60 
seconds.
