You are exactly where I am interest and skill wise. From what I have gotten as
the majority opinion is for me to do as much of the prep work my self, body
work, disassembly of the body (lights, bumpers,windshield, etc). Maybe even
laying down primer coats and getting some of the initial sanding done on that
paint. This by it self a huge enough undertaking and will save you large $$ and
will give you the satisfaction you want. Just make sure you use a primer that
will be complimentary to the color coat (talk to the final painter). Do not
even rule out your local Maaco as some of them can actually do a nice job on an
interesting car, talk to them too.
