The thing I never got is, why don't the FBI, Interpol, the Police, or
your local Boy Scouts of America do a sting on these guys? If you are
giving the money to the Personal Assistant, why can't he/she get
arrested on site? Couldn't the shipping company get arrest/fined for
delivering stolen goods (or theft by receiving)? Of course, that would
be bad news for the legit guy in Angola who wants to buy a U.S. spec MG
and has to pay extra in shipping to cover the fines.

The closest I've been to getting ripped off was when I bought a box-lot
of old Commodore computer stuff from a guy in Canada, and it took a
convincing sounding threat to turn him into the Canadian police to get
my stuff (three months later). Of course, it all arrived in one big
box with no bubble-wrap, no peanuts, nothing but busted equipment. The
good news was the one item I really wanted from the box-lot was
unharmed.
