What is this?

In my MGB (1976), just adjacent to the rear edge of  the front door, there 
is a snap button for the top.  Directly behind it, just adjacent to the 
front edge of the rear quarter panel is a rectangular socket, perhaps a 
part called the top frame and tonneau bow socket (??-).  Has anyone used 
this socket as the insert point for the supports of a wind screen?
