Probably a marginal component in the tach. There is a thermistor which I
believe is for temperature compensation, could be that, or then again it
could be another component that is driving things further out then the
thermistor can compensate for. See

Subject: Tach Problem
> I have a bizzare problem with my tach. The tach works great except
occasionally on very HOT days if the gauge is baking in the sun the needle
will read 1-2K higher. If I park in the shade everything is OK. Any ideas?
