On my 1980 MGB, I've got the retaining clip with a metal twist tie
wrapped through the sides of the clip to hold the sensor in. The PO had
set it up that way, and it was one modification that I left in place.

One plastic wire tie, threaded through the radiator, over the header
tank and across the switch will stop it popping out. BTDT!
