Also, the tach is just dead. Originally, it worked

konk out, but only when it was cold outside, and only
for a few seconds. Then more and more frequently. I
could whack the glass a few times and wake it up, but

Needs cleaning. The old grease gets stickier in cold weather and the
older it gets, or dirtier. Try seeing if a local clock maker is willing
to clean and lubricate it. Or do it yourself. I've done the older non
electric ones.
