Yes and yes.  Shiny metal to shiny metal, and assemble with copper grease.
Check the volt-drops in the heavy current circuit by disconnecting a coil
lead, connecting a voltmeter to the +ve battery post (not clamp) and
solenoid stud and cranking - note the voltage.  Repeat from the -ve battery
post to starter body.  Ideally you will get about 0.25v each side, any more
than 1v shows bad connections and is worth investigating.  Obviously use the
other battery posts for positive ground, and check the battery link cable
(twin 6v) the same way i.e. one battery +ve post to the other battery -ve
post.
