Hmmmmmm,whats this?

             While installing my new aluminum valve cover cover today I ran 
into a snag.There was a VERY thin hose running rom the carbs over top the valve 
cover down towards the distrib area.Is this some sort of a vacuum hose?What 
are the reprecussions of just removing it as it is to short to make it over the 
new valve cover?Will need a longer one if it is a must have part.
