Looking at it logically (always a dangerous thing) if the book gives a
clearance and says to bend the metal tab on those floats that have them in
order to obtain the correct clearance, then having the all-plastic floats
giving the correct clearance would also seem the right thing to do, and
washers is the only way to do it AFAIK - *if* they are not giving the
correct clearance.
