Don,
Perhaps if Kelvin gave us the advance curve specs of the Moss distributor
and also a boost curve for the pulley ratio that Moss supplies, we could
come up with a definitive answer.
The distributor I used in my last supercharged TR6, and also the one I am
building now, I built myself. It had a total of 24 degrees of mechanical
advance, all in by 3000RPM. I did not find boost retard necessary the last
time, although this time I intend to install it, just because you can push
the limits further if you wish.
My personal opinion is that only boosted need high performance electronic
ignitions. The programmable ones are cool, sure beats changing out the
centrifugal weights in the distributor or playing with various simple boost
modules to retard timing at certain boost levels.
