David, The OD tranny is different from the non-od tranny in that the mainshaft (very rare)extends through the od unit. I found a D type OD tranny in a junkyard some time ago. I just rebuilt and swapped over in my 66 last year. The best advice I can give is to find an OD tranny and rebuild it as you'll need the mainshaft anyway.
