Plugging the transmissionj dipstick hole did not work, but last night I
plugged the hole where the wiring harness enters the car from the engine bay
(with a sock!) and that seems to have done it.  Unfortunately, I still don't
know where the smoke, which seem to be oil smoke, comes from - can't see any
under the bonnet at idle.
