If it's a post-'74 car, check that the catalytic converter isn't banging
against the steering column. If the motor mounts sag (which is common)
the cat drops to uncomfortably close to the steering column. I've got
that problem currently with a 1980 Limited Edition. New motor mounts are
the only solution.

fair,
the car
makes a rattle that sounds like it involves the front suspension or
steering.
