Wrong guess, amigo.
TRs used splined adaptors that bolt onto the same hubs as steel wheel cars
used, albeit with shorter studs as you observed.
MGAs use different hubs, which themselves are splined, and not adaptors. To
change a steel wheel MGA to wires requires the hubs, rear end complete (the
axle housing is narrower and the shafts a different length) and on drum
braked cars, also the front drums - they are a 6 bolt fixing, not 4, as I
recall.
