You'd probably want to replace the hose too. That seems to be a source
of problems.

The electronic ignitions are notorious. You'd be better off with a
Pertronix or a Crane setup. I have pertronix, it works well.

If you've been coverted to points, then you have a different distributor
than stock. You need to buy the right pertronix for it. Check what 
distributor was put in before buying.

 From a power and reliability standpoint yes. That is if the SU's are in
good shape (no leaks in the throttle shafts).

Haynes, the red Bentley book and Clausager are a good start. Probably in
that order.

The 'B is pretty easy, especially with the book and this list.
