I *think* it was always stamped on a screen-printed plate that was
pop-rivetted or screwed to the body, not stamped on the body itself. North
American cars had two additional VIN plates from 1969 - one in the LH door
opening and the other viewable through the windscreen. The 'standard' plate
was usually on one of the inner wings.
