While I've the engine out of my '79 B and pretty much stripped down, I'm
wondering what everyone's advice is regarding the timing chain.
I see four options:
1) leave everything alone
2) replace tensioner
3) replace tensioner and chain
4) replace everything with double-row chain and sprockets
The odo says 74K miles, which is probably correct, but the engine was torn
down and/or replaced at some point before 40K, as evidenced by the fact that
it's painted red. However, I have no documentation to show me what may have
been done at that time.
