The question is, how did the fins get bent? Sounds like the adjustment bolt
was loose and the belt tension caused it to slip... but what did the fins
impact? I'd check the tightness of all the alternator bracket bolts, and
look for possible interference.
The gauges probably went out because you weren't getting any juice once the
alternator slipped. Once you get everything tight it shouldn't happen again
(Lucas willing).
