Hello to all! Today I checked my beautiful freshly rebuild and slightly
tuned (by wellknown british specialist) cylinder head (for MGB 18
V-engine)and had to state something very strange and frightening: Not only,
that the head has been uneven up to 6/100 mm: When I look in the outlet
ports I can see the new valve seats surrounded by cylindrical cast iron
and in each a vertical crack (in the cast iron) with a length of 10 15 mm
from the lower edge upwards. It looks as if the new valve seats were
slightly too big or the hole in the cast iron had not the correct diameter.
What do you think: Is this only a corporal defect? Or might a serious damage
result from this, i.e. a break to water-containing areas? So far I am
afraid, that the cracks could extend during operation. I would be glad to
learn, if there is anybody with similar experience or/and with a detailed
knowledge.
