The bearing races are a tight fit (diameter and length) in the
yoke. The circlips are thin and look engaged even if they are not
fully in the groove. My sequence -
Assy cross with all with all 4 races well inside their yoke holes.
Leave race 1 just clearing its groove, with opposite race (call it
3) a little bit covering its groove.
Put in circlip 1, fully seated.
Using bench vice slowly/carefully force race 3 in with a socket
till groove is fully visible, making sure not to get heavy
rotational binding, which will happen if you are over forcing the
cross assy into circlip 1.
If you get binding tap race 1 back in with a drift and try again.
Repeat for races 2 and 4.
