This post is a bit long and I apologize in advance.
In late 1990 my wife got very sick. Things looked bad. In spring of 1991, to
relive old days, we bought a 1977 MGB from a local guy who admitted up front
that it had been nothing but trouble. We put almost 13,000 miles on the car
that summer with absolutely no problems. My wife completely recovered.
Actually, better than ever. We both attribute this in large part to the time
we spent together touring all over New England. That winter, I asked my wife
if we could spend a little (I thought about $1,000) making the car a little
prettier. She said "would $3,000 do it? $4,600 later we had a beautiful car.
We would leave central Massachusetts early on a Saturday morning and drive to
Canada for lunch. We toured the East coast from Tennessee to Prince Edward
Island. Hit the big MG show in Washington in 1994. I autocrossed and rallyed
in it and did well against my class. One day I even beat a 12 cylinder Jag.
I remember Barney's comment on that.
On July 5 of this year I was warming the car in my driveway prior to an oil
change. It had run long enough for the exhaust header to get really hot. A
fuel line broke and dumped gas on the header (the insurance adjuster said). I
heard the fire start but by the time I got to it it was really going. The
extinguisher was in the car and I was too scared to get it. Garden hose did
zip. Fire department got there in 5 minutes. By then the carb had melted,
the entire passenger compartment, wooden dash and all, was gone. Car was
utterly destroyed. Thank God the gas tank didn't blow up. Insurance company
was great about it.
My life has changed to the point that I will not be able to replace it. I now
have a huge assortment of parts for both the 77 MGB and other years that I
must either throw away or try to sell. This is the reason for this post. I
will not post the entire list. I don't even have it completely compiled yet.
I have 4 of the Minator Alloy wheels with almost new 185/65 toyo tires. I
also have a dash (no instruments, just the dash) for the 77 MGB which is in
excellent shape.
If anyone is interested please e-mail me and I will send the list to you. I
hope to compile the list and prices based on half of what Moss or VB sell
stuff for. The dash is negotiable as are the wheels. If you want the list,
