Steve,
You bought a 1980 MGB with sufficient rust in the sill area (rocker panels?)
to necessitate an entire replacement? You better check the other common areas
of the MGB known to harbor cancerous rust, headlight tunnels, floors of the
boot area and the cockpit floor front and rear lower wing (fenders) areas.
For some unknown reason the cost effective nuts of the British-Leyland era
never used much in the way of rust preventative. Go Figure...Anyway, If it
looks like more trouble than its worth trying to save a panel, just get a new
one. If its starting to rust it'll continue unless You do an undercoat with a
rust inhibitor/preventitive. It was probably used in the North Eastern United
States...or another area where salt was used on the snow/icey roads and as
such may never be entirely "Rust Free" Sorry, Albert Escalante, 1978 MGB
