oh, incidentally why were the electrics fried in the first place?
cheers
Joe
Joe, I've been thinking a lot about what may have started the DPO on his
cutting rampage. My theory is that he had either the dash lights or the
fuel and temp gauges stop working. In his efforts to fix it he shorted out
something major, resulting in the melted brown wires under the hood. I did
find a red/white wire and a black that were very melted, especially the
black. These wires would have been to one of the dash illumination lights.
This may have been his starting point. I'm just guessing, maybe I'll find a
more definite answer when I work on it this weekend. I may break down and
pull the dash this weekend just to make sure I have all the damaged wire
replaced. Right now I'm concerned that I do all this work and then fire it
up just to burn the wiring again. I do have most of a spare harness, but
it's from a 75 or 77 car, can't remember which.
To be honest, I'm kind of enjoying this quest. It's just another step that
is required in getting another old car back on the road.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep everyone informed of my findings and
progress.
