If you check out their info, they have:
"Q: Why are you called MG & the Midgets?
"A: The MG is taken from Mark Gowland, our harp player, and the Midgets
seemed a natural addition given the (lack of!!) height of most of the other
members of the band"
So no apparently claim to anything automotive...
