All,
Since I usually only post when I have a problem, I
thought I would post on a different note. About 2
months ago, I lost clutch pressure. Everyone said
that my symptoms pointed toward the slave cylinder. I
got the following for advice:
1) Replace the slave only
2) Replace the slave and the flex hose
3) Replace the slave, flex hose, and master cylinder
as it will probably go out soon.
I decided on #2 for starters. Problem was I really
had a hard time getting the old flex hose disconnected
from the fixed pipe. I was afraid I was going to
damage the fixed pipe so I assessed the flex hose that
was there. It seemed flexible with no visible dry rot
so I left it there, installed the new slave, bled, and
wooohooo back on the road.
I know the purist would tell me that I made a mistake
and the hose will come back to bite me, but, if it
does, I'll fix it.
It was about 20 degrees here in St. Louis and I spent
as little time in our unheated, uninsulated garage as
I could. Of course, when I got it going again, I had
to take a 30 minute spin around town...top down of
course.
Thanks for all the help.
Any hints on getting the flex hose unmated from the
fixed pipe?
Tom
