I may be asking a fair amount of questions on the 65B restoration I am
working on. Unlike my previous MGs, this one will present some interesting
challenges. The previous owner attempted to transplant his 72 drive train
into the 65 body and then sold it on Ebay to me. For a recent high school
graduate, he did a pretty good job and was probably 80% complete with it.
But he did replace some parts with non-originals.
The car does run. One problem, however, is that the fuel pump clicks
continuously when the ignition switch is turned on. Car starts right up and
there is no fuel overflow from the bowls to indicate any problems. A check
of the pump shows that it is a Purolator solid state electronic fuel pump.
A second one came with the car in an unopened package and is rated for low
pressures. Naturally, I'm more familiar with the standard SU pumps. Anyone
use these Purolator pumps? Is it normal for it to click continuously? Maybe
its no big deal, but normally with SU pumps and carbs, this would indicate
a problem.
