Dave,
This is one mod that nobody can see so why not save the $ for other
noticeable areas on the car. You can get great prices on a 12V battery that
will work just fine. Group 26 is the size that has been mentioned
lately, not too wide to insert and not too tall and by all means get one with
a built in handle so you don't brake your back and cut your fingers up
installing it. That kind of takes the fun out of the hobby.
This once labor intensive job can really be made easy if people would
clean their battery posts once a year, have a couple of new battery clamps
on hand always( cheap, $2.00 for 2, or cheaper) replace old corroded cables
with new ones, and make sure the body ground is clean and tight. This should
last for a couple of years if not longer.
In your case Dave put the 12V battery in the passenger side hole,(or
box) use the positive cable already there and install a new short- negative
to ground -cable to the body(neg.ground car) somewhere in the same box.
Then you can put one of the after market plastic liners in the drivers side
battery box and store your extra oil bottles or tools or whatevers in it.
Its all covered up so who knows the difference except you and your wallet.
